Indian wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan is set to make his comeback in the Ranji Trophy as Jharkhand captain after four years. Kishan had a controversial pull out last season which led to his exclusion from the BCCI central contract. The last time he led Jharkhand was in the 2018-19 season. Ahead of the 2024-25 season, last season’s skipper Virat Singh has been named as the vice captain of the side.

Kishan was last seen in action in the Irani Cup, where he was a part of the Rest of India squad. He was dismissed for 38 runs, and didn’t keep wickets as Dhruv Jurel filled in for wicketkeeper. In the upcoming season, Kishan is expected to be a full-time batter as Kumar Kushagra is set to don the gloves. Notably, Kishan’s last assignment for India came after Rishabh Pant’s accident. After he took a break from the South Africa tour, Kishan didn’t participate in any BCCI match, which ultimately led to his exclusion from the BCCI contract.

Ishan Kishan’s records in first-class cricket

Kishan has scored a total of 3235 runs in first-class cricket averaging at 38.97 with a total of seven hundreds and 17 fifties. He has also played two Tests and scored 78 runs with one half century. It goes without saying that after he lost his BCCI contract, Kishan will aim to put a strong show in the elite domestic competition, and hope of making his way back into the Indian team.
