Legendary South African batter AB de Villiers revealed the name of the cricketer who will lead Royal Challengers Bengaluru for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League 2024-25. De Villiers who was associated with the Bengaluru-based franchise for the later part of his IPL career revealed who is the most suitable name to lead the side after the team failed to get in a captaincy-worthy candidate. Notably, during the IPL 2025 mega auction, RCB roped in some popular names including Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Phil Salt, Tim David, Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma, and more.

De Villiers, who is still considered one of the greats of the game, enjoyed a successful stint with RCB. Apart from being one of the key members of the team, the Proteas’ batter is also one of Kohli’s best friends. In a recent video that he posted on his YouTube Channel, the former cricketer confirmed that Virat Kohli will be the one who will take up RCB captaincy despite the fact that there is no official confirmation from the franchise or the cricketer.

Virat Kohli will be captain looking at the squad: AB de Villiers

The cricketer-turned-commentator spoke on his YouTube channel and said, "Virat Kohli, I don't think it has been confirmed yet but he will be captain looking at the squad.” He also spoke about the RCB squad and said, "We got Bhuvneshwar Kumar, happy with Josh Hazlewood. We did miss out on a couple here and there. Rabada was close, but at least we got Lungi Ngidi. He's got a wonderful slower ball, if he is in form and fit, he is a force to be reckoned with.”

He added, "We missed out on Ravichandran Ashwin. CSK got him, but very happy to see him in the yellow jersey again. But all in all, I'm fairly happy. It's a well-balanced squad, we are missing a match-winning spinner but hopefully we are able to balance the squad in such a manner that we make Chinnaswamy a fortress. This squad should work at Chinnaswamy."
