The Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL) opener Kolkata Knight Riders versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Eden Gardens might get washed out as there are high chances of rain in Kolkata. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of thunderstorm, lightning and winds in the metropolitan city on March 21 and 22, with Orange alert for matchday. Amidst these developments, if there is persistent rain, the match will be abandoned and the two sides will be sharing one point each.
IPL fans are currently disappointed with these developments as they were all excited about the opening clash between both quality teams without any hassle. Reacting to the rain in the City of Joy, a fan named Rushabh Patwa expressed desolation and wrote on X, “KKR vs RCB will be abandoned tomorrow as it is raining heavily in Kolkata today and weather forecast is not good for tomorrow either.”
Here are some of the other fan reactions on X in regards to potential chance of rain during KKR vs RCB's IPL 2025 opener:
KKR will be defending IPL title under Ajinkya Rahane
KKR, who are defending champions, will strive to be dominant against RCB if the match takes place. Ajinkya Rahane, who captained Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the past, is trusted with the captaincy mantle, and he will look to hand a fine start to the home team with the victory against the Challengers.
RCB haven’t beaten Kolkata in the last four games, and Kolkata will want to take this streak ahead. In their last meeting at the Eden Gardens, KKR held their nerves and defended 222 runs successfully to win the game by a narrow margin of one run.
