During the second Test of the BGT series between Australia and India at Adelaide Oval, both the teams and the spectators saw a disturbance on the first day of the match as the flood lights went off twice during the last session. The interruption occurred first time during the 18tth over of the Australian innings, and lasted till 28 seconds. Former wicket-keeper Brad Haddin has finally revealed the real reason for the blackout during the opening day of the Adelaide Test.

Brad Haddin remarked that the blackout happened because of a mixup involving Australian spinner Nathan Lyon. As soon as the floodlights went off, the spectators switched on the torches of their mobile phones, and turned the Adelaide Oval into a light show. The interruption occurred once again during the Harshit Rana over, and lasted for 86 seconds this time. Notably, Australia won the second Test by 10 wickets, to level the five-match series by 1-1.

Nathan Lyon went out the back for a hit and they went to turn the lights on: Brad Haddin

During the Willow Talk podcast on YouTube, Brad Haddin said that Nathan Lyon turned the wrong switch, due to which the lights went off. “I was speaking to the ground staff and it was all about Nathan Lyon. Nathan Lyon went out the back for a hit and they went to turn the lights on and whatever happened, they turned the wrong set off and the lights went off, and Nathan Lyon said, ‘I’ve got to fix this so I can go out and bat in the nets,” Haddin was quoted as saying by Crictracker.

“They politely said to Nathan, the lights are off on the ground, we’re not so worried about your hit at the moment. So that’s come hot off the press from the curators,” the former Aussie cricketer said.
