Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton has been in talks with Mercedes regarding his new contract and despite being in his last year of the contract with the company, the F1 star is in no hurry for a contract extension. Hamilton got associated with the Silver Arrows in 2013, and though he was quite reluctant to open up about the talks regarding the contract extension, the English driver has confirmed that the talks are open.

Ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, slated on June 16-18, Sunday, Hamilton spoke about his contract details. On being asked if he and Mercedes boss Toto Wolff “hooked up” as scheduled or met on pizza, he said, “We’ve never hooked up” and “We’ve never had pizza.” He then broke his silence on the topic and said, “I've seen Toto, we've talked several times.” He added, “Yeah. Nothing else real to really add to it."

The British F1 driver is looking for a multi-year and the deal could be done at the Canadian GP, where he won his career’s first F1 victory back in 2007. But Hamilton isn’t bothered about the timeline. He said, “I don't really have a huge amount to say on the contract side of things. It'll get done when it's done. If that's next week, if that's in a month's time, as long as it gets done it doesn't really bother me.”

On the other hand, Wolff said on “Squawk on the Street" program, “We both joined the team in 2013 together and from a professional relationship, we now have a friendship. It has been a wonderful time. He is the most important personality in the sport. He is so multi-faceted, not only the racing but also off track, so we need to keep him in the sport for as long as possible.”

Hamilton started off his career with Mercedes powered McLaren in 2007, and in 2013, he made the move to the Mercedes team. With the team, he has scored 82 of his record 103 F1 victories, along with six of his seven championships.
