Ahead of their quarter-final clash against Tottenham Hostpur away in the EFL Cup, Ruben Amorim, the Manchester United manager, acknowledged the recent comment from Marcus Rashford about pursuing a new challenge after his 20-year association with the club. But, at the same time, the 39-year-old, who had left out of the matchday squad for the Manchester derby, stated that it’s a hard situation to comment on, and he plans to deal with it without making a big headline out of it.
Notably, after United defeated City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League, Marcus Rashord spoke to journalist Henry Winter during a school event in Manchester about how he is “ready for a new challenge and the next steps.” The Manchester United superstar also revealed that whenever he leaves the club, there won’t be any hard feelings, and he won’t have anything negative to say about his time in the Northwest of England.
If I give a lot of importance to it, it will have big healdines: Ruben Amorim
In acknowledging the situation surrounding Marcus Rashford’s future at Manchester Untied to the press, Ruben Amorim stayed away from sensationalising it. He was quoted as saying, as per Fabrizio Romano on X, “It’s a hard situation to comment on. If I give a lot of importance to it, it will have big headlines in the papers and if I say it’s not a problem, then my standards are getting low. So I will deal with that, I understand that.”
Ruben Amorim had also spoken about how Manchester United under him is a new challenge, which is something he wants all his players to be ready for. I think it's right. He said, as per BBC Sport, “We have here a new challenge, it's a tough one. For me it's the biggest challenge in football because we are in a difficult situation and I already said this is one of the biggest clubs in the world. I really hope all my players are ready for this new challenge.”
Moreover, Marcus Rashford had signed a four and half year contract extension last summer on a £325,000-a-week salary with Manchester United, and his latest comments could make the club management listen to offers for him in the January transfer window.
