New Zealand's veteran pacer Tim Southee opened up on New Zealand’s historic Test series win against India. The Black Caps, under the leadership of Tom Latham, broke India’s 12-year unbeaten streak and defeated India on Indian soil in a Test series. New Zealand recorded their first ever Test series win in India as they took down the hosts by 2-0 in the series. Tom Latham and Co. defeated India in the first Test by eight wickets before they recorded a 113-run win over the counterparts in the second Test.
The series halted India’s impressive run of 18 Test series wins at home which had lasted since Alastair Cook recorded a 2-1 win in December 2012. Expressing happiness and satisfaction on the historic win against India, Southee said that the achievement sends a message to the other teams that it is possible to defeat India on home conditions.
It is possible to defeat India in India: Tim Southee
Southee, who has played 104 Tests and picked 385 wickets for New Zealand, told Cricbuzz, “Yeah, I think you just look at the history. What is it, 12 years that someone's been able to do it and 18 series or whatever it is. It's a very, very tough place to come. I think if you look at it from my perspective and the cricket I've played in the past however many years, I think you look at India and Australia as probably the two most difficult places to tour. Both the conditions, the quality of the opposition, and how good they are at home make it a tough place to tour.”
He added, "But I think you look at this one in particular, 12 years, 18 series. It's nice to be that side that's broken that run. I guess it shows other teams around the world that it is possible to beat India in India.”
