The England men’s cricket team have been handed a massive blow in regard to Jack Leach’s injury. Adding more to their woes, the England left-arm spinner is now set to undergo surgery following the injury he sustained in the first India Test in Hyderabad.

Leach sustained the injury when he banged his left knee while diving near the boundary ropes on Day 1 of the India versus England first Test in Hyderabad. Despite the blow, the 32-year-old continued to feature in the opening Test and managed to secure crucial wickets, but had to sit out in the second Test and thereafter was ruled out from the remainder Tests in the series.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, the England spinner spoke on the nature of his injury and addressed the swelling in his knee. “I am going to have an operation to get the rest of the swelling out because it’s not budging. It was quite an unfortunate one,” he said during his interaction on BBC Radio 5 Live.

“It was the second ball of the first innings in the field so that whole game I was playing with this knee problem. I obviously knocked it a few times throughout that game, and it has just created a long period of recovery,” Leach further added.

The injury for Leach comes after the spinner returned following a stress fracture on the back. The 32-year-old was kept on the sideline during the Ashes series last summer. He also spoke showing his eagerness to return to the field. “I need to get the operation done and then hopefully I can get back to playing cricket. I’d love to have a run of playing cricket and getting into a bit of a rhythm again and hopefully that can happen again once I’ve got this sorted,” he said.
