After the BWF World Championships, Badminton World Tour is set to resume with the Japan Open 2022 which gets underway on 30 August 2022. This will be the 16th tournament in the 2022 World Tour. The Super 750 tournament is returning to BWF World Tour after a two-year hiatus as the last two editions could not be held due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Badminton players from across the globe will take part in the tournament. Indian shuttlers who had a decent outing at the World Championships will also be in action. The likes of HS Prannoy, Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, and Saina Nehwal will be in action for India. Meanwhile, PV Sindhu who missed the World Championships with injury will miss the Japan Open as well. World Champion Viktor Axelsen has pulled out of the tournament citing workload management.

Indians in action
India have only one seeded player and that is PV Sindhu. However, the double Olympic medallist will miss the tourn ament as she is recovering from an ankle injury. Saina Nehwal will be the lone representation from India in the Women’s Singles category. She will open her campaign against the top-seed Akane Yamaguchi.
In the Men’s Singles category, India will have HS Prannoy, K Srikanth, and Lakshya Sen representing India. While Prannoy will open his campaign against Ka Long Angus, Srikanth and Sen will play Lee Zii Jia and Kenta Nishimoto respectively. In the men’s doubles category, India will have MR Arjun/Dhruva Kapila and Krishna Prasad/Vishnuvardhan Goud.
In the Women’s Singles category, India will have representation from Ashwini Bhat/Shikha Gautam and Treesa Jolly/Pullela Gopichand. Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles category, Venkat Prasad/Juhi Dewangan will represent India.
