With reports around former Pakistan cricketer Aaqib Javed taking over the reigns as Pakistan’s white-ball coach surfaced on Sunday, November 17, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) took to social media to quash the rumours. However, there have been talks of the PCB making a decision on giving the responsibility of the white-ball setup to Javed, the cricket board took X to confirm that Jason Gillespie will continue to coach the side.

It is to be noted that there have been a lot of changes in the coaching staff of Pakistan’s white-ball setup. Gary Kristen, who coached India also, tendered his resignation last month with Gillespie being given the responsibility of coaching the white-ball team. Under his stint, Pakistan clinched the ODI series by 2-1 margin before conceding the T20I series with a game still to be played.

Jason Gillespie to continue as Pakistan white-ball coach for South Africa series

With several media houses confirming the development on Jason Gillespie’s removal as Pakistan’s coach, the PCB took to X and wrote, “PCB strongly refutes the story. As announced previously, Jason Gillespie will continue to coach the Pakistan side for the two red-ball matches against South Africa.”

Speaking of the Pakistan’s coaching structure, after Babar Azam stepped down as their white-ball skipper, Gary Kristen also had put down his papers, citing differences with the PCB on several different matters. Prior to that, the team saw several big decisions taken before and after the World Cups, both in 2023 and in 2024.

Coming to Pakistan’s upcoming cricket assignments, the Mohammad Rizwan-led side will travel to Zimbabwe for a white-ball series, consisting of three ODIs and as many T20Is, starting November 24. This will be followed by an all-format series against South Africa, including three T20Is, as many ODIs and two Tests from December 10 till January 7, 2025.
