The five-time champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) have been bolstered with the inclusion of star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah as he joined the camp in Mumbai on Sunday, April 6 during IPL 2025. The franchise took to social media to confirm this update in a caption which read, “READY TO ROAR”.

While this sits at once place, later in the evening, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene also confirmed that Bumrah is available for selection for their game, which is scheduled for Monday, April 7. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, the former Sri Lanka cricketer added that “he’s available, he’s training today and should be available.”

The 31-year-old pace spearhead, who has been out of action since early January 2025 after injuring his back during the fifth BGT Test in Sydney, will return to competitive cricket this month. However, an exact date is not yet confirmed, but Jayawardene’s comments have hinted it could be April 7.

"He arrived last night, he had his sessions with NCA [National Cricket Academy, now Centre of Excellence] to finalise that, he's been handed over to our physios. He's bowling today, so all good," the former cricketer said.

"Boom's coming back from a pretty decent layoff, so we need to give him that space. Not expect too much. Knowing Jasprit he will be up for it. We're very happy to have him in the camp, the experience he brings, that extra voice out there in the middle, chatting with Boulty [Trent Boult], chatting with Deepak [Chahar] or any other younger bowler, giving that advice is also very valuable for us. That's what we're looking forward to from him," he further added.

Speaking of the franchise, MI are reeling in the bottom half of the IPL 2025 points table. After having played four matches, MI have registered only one win, which came against the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
