Star Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and Australian skipper Pat Cummins have made it into the list of nominees for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for December 2024. Along with Bumrah and Cummins, South African pace Dane Paterson has also been nominated to win player of the month in the Men's category for December. On the other hand, India’s Smriti Mandhana, Australia’s Annabel Sutherland and South Africa’s Nonkululeko Mlaba are nominated for Women’s Player of the month.
Jasprit Bumrah is among the favourites to win the player of the month award for his standout performance in the recently ended 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The fast bowler scalped 32 wickets in five matches and was adjudged player of the series. Out of those 32 wickets, Bumrah scalped 22 wickets in the month of December. However, India ended up losing the series by 1-3 as the Australian skipper Pat Cummins led from the front by taking 25 scalps and also scored crucial 159 runs with the bat in five matches. The fast bowler took 17 and scored 144 runs in December.
Smriti Mandhana picked as Player of the month in Women’s category
Along with Jasprit Bumrah and Pat Cummins, South Africa’s Dane Paterson was also among the top performers in December taking 13 wickets in two Test matches against Sri Lanka and Pakistan respectively with two five-wicket hauls. Talking about Women’s category, India’s Smriit Mandhana is among the favourites to win the award for her impressive performance last month. The left hander started with a century in Australia, followed by four consecutive fifties in three T20Is and one ODI. Mandhana scored 463 runs in December, 2024.
Apart from that, Australian all rounder Annabell Sutherland also turned out to be impressive in December with two consecutive ODI tons against India and New Zealand respectively. On the other hand, South Africa’s Nonkululeko Mlaba registered a historic performance in a Test match against England Women. The left-arm scalped 10 wickets in Test match becoming the first Proteas Women to do so.
