On Wednesday, January 8, ICC released its latest Test rankings, according to which Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah retained his top spot. Bumrah, with a career-best rating of 908 in the latest rankings, continues to sit on top of the charts. Notably, the Indian pacer scripted history ahead of the fifth and final Test against Australia as he recorded the highest-ever rating points for an Indian bowler at 907 points. His tally improved by one point after he picked two wickets in the Sydney Test. Bumrah could have earned more points; however, he had to be ruled out of bowling in the second innings, and restricting him to just batting.

However, his earlier performances were enough to keep him on number 1, a spot ahead of Australian skipper Pat Cummins, who climbed to second spot after his five-wicket haul in the series decider. Speaking of batting stalwarts, former skipper Virat Kohli and current captain Rohit Sharma suffered major drops in the batting rankings. While Kohli moved three places down to the 27th spot, Rohit dropped two spots and is now sitting on the 42nd spot in the Test batting rankings.

Rishabh Pant moves to ninth spot, Ravindra Jadeja retains top spot in all-rounders’ rankings

The ICC rankings also saw a major leap for wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant, who jumped three places, to the ninth spot. Pant came up with a knock of 61 runs off 33 balls in the final Test, which helped him make his way into the top 10 among Test batters. On the other hand, Ravindra Jadeja continued to retain his position as the world’s top-ranked all-rounder as well as shared the ninth spot with Australia’s Scott Boland in the bowling rankings.

Talking about Boland, he made a leap of 29 places to pave his way to the top 10. Boland came up with a remarkable performance in the Sydney Test, where he picked 10-wicket haul (4/31, 6/45) to help his side win the series and secure their WTC Final 2025 spot at the Lord’s in June 2025.
