Indian fast bowler and star player Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss the start of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for five-time champions, Mumbai Indians (MI). The Indian pacer, who has been out of action since the fifth BGT 2024-25 Test in Sydney, is currently undergoing rehabilitation for his back injury in Bengaluru.
Bumrah, who was leading India in the fifth Test of the BGT 2024-25 in Sydney against Australia, left the field due to back issues. However, he claimed 32 wickets in the five Tests, he has remained inactive since then, missing the Champions Trophy 2025 where India returned victorious.
Jasprit Bumrah to miss initial stages of IPL 2025 for MI: Reports
Sources close to the development have confirmed that Bumrah is yet to get clearance from the medical team and the BCCI Centre of Excellence physios haven’t established a specific timeline for his return. “His recuperation is going well. But at this stage it is better to give him some more time to return to peak fitness, considering India’s Test series against England in June,” a source close to the development told PTI.
However, the 31-year-old has been gradually increasing workload in nets and match simulations, and is likely to make a return by early April. Although, this comes as a massive setback for the five-time IPL title winners, the Hardik Pandya-led MI will heavily rely on pacers like Trent Boult, Corbin Bosch and Deepak Chahar.
Speaking of their IPL 2025 campaign, the five-time champions will take on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their tournament opener at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, March 23. They will then travel to Ahmedabad to take on Gujarat Titans before returning to their home ground for a clash against the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 31.
