Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be India’s vice-captain for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025, which will be held in Pakistan and the UAE. Bumrah will be Rohit Sharma’s deputy for the upcoming tournament ahead of players like Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya who have served as a vice-captain in the 50-over format in recent times. Pandya was appointed the vice-captain for the 2023 ODI World Cup before he was ruled out due to sustaining injury in the league stage match against Bangladesh.

On the other hand, young batter Shubman Gill got his first assignment as Indian captain during the T20I series against Zimbabwe in July. After that, he was appointed as vice-captain during the ODI series against Sri Lanka. Now, Jasprit Bumrah, who was a vice-captain in the recently ended Border-Gavaskar Trophy down under, can also be seen taking over the captaincy role for the upcoming Champions Trophy.

Jasprit Bumrah to be vice captain in 2025 Champions Trophy

Jasprit Bumrah has previously led India in the T20I and the Test format. He also took over as captain during the first Test against Australia in Perth in Rohit Sharma’s absence, and led India to a famous 295-run win. After that, Bumrah also took charge in the final Test in Sydney after Rohit decided to opt out. However, the fast bowler couldn’t come to bowl in the second innings due to back spasms. Now, as per the latest report from News18, Bumrah is also set to become Rohit Sharma’s deputy in the 2025 Champions Trophy.

India are scheduled to play their all matches of the Champions Trophy at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, while the rest of the tournament will take place in Pakistan. India’s campaign will begin with a match against Bangladesh on February 20. After that, the Men in Blue will face arch-rival Pakistan on February 23, followed by their last league match against New Zealand on March 2.
