Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has reportedly undergone scans and thorough assessment of his back at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru after he had suffered spasms a month ago during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) series in Australia. The comprehensive medical report will be coming out in the next 24 hours, which will decide the fate of the 31-year-old as far as his participation in the ICC Champions Trophy in Indian colours is concerned.

As per the report from the Times of India, Jasprit Bumrah is expected to stay in Bengaluru to have a discussion with the medical team of BCCI about his road to full recovery from the back issue. Following that, the BCCI medical team is going to detail the situation to the Indian team management, while Dr Rowan Schouten from New Zealand, who had operated on Jasprit Bumrah after he had suffered a back injury in 2023, might also give his opinion on the scans after he had done the same for previous scans last month.

Jasprit Bumrah last played for India during the fifth and final Test of the BGT Test series

Since the Indian team management don’t have much time to finalise their squad for the ICC Champions Trophy, which will begin in just 12 days’ time, they are likely to make their final decision about whether to take Jasprit Bumrah to the UAE on the basis of his upcoming medical report. Already, the Indian fast bowler was left out of the Indian cricket team for their ongoing three-match ODI series, and he was replaced by spinner Varun Chakravarthy in the squad.

Notably, Jasprit Bumrah last played for India during the fifth and final Test of the BGT Test series at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), at the start of last month, and he had to pull out from bowling any further during Australia’s first innings after suffering back spasms.

Below is the Indian preliminary squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025:

Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravindra Jadeja.
