Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Jay Shah on Monday, August 26, decided to introduce prize money across various domestic cricket tournaments. This step by the Indian cricket board comes after the BCCI Secretary mandated the participation of centrally contracted players in domestic tournaments after discrepancies in the system.

Additionally, prize money will be awarded for the Player of the Match in the Vijay Hazare and Syed Mushtaq Ali tournaments for Senior Men,” Jay Shah wrote in a post on X. “This initiative aims to recognize and reward outstanding performances in the domestic circuit. A heartfelt thank you to the Apex Council for their unwavering support in this endeavour. Together, we are fostering a more rewarding environment for our cricketers. Jai Hind," he further added.
Moreover, this initiative of rewarding the star performers at domestic level aims to nurture and celebrate cricketing talent across al levels and is expected to be a morale boost to help players elevate their game. Speaking of India’s domestic calendar, it is scheduled to start in September with the Duleep Trophy, which is also set to see several centrally contracted players feature in the tournament ahead of the Bangladesh series.
