With the deadline for International Cricket Council (ICC) Directors to file their nominations for the next Chairman set to end on Tuesday, August 27, sources close to SportsTiger have confirmed that Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Jay Shah is set to replace Greg Barclay. However, the official announcement regarding the same will be made later, reports have revealed Shah to take the helm with Rohan Jaitley replacing him as the BCCI Secretary.

Moreover, several reports have claimed that Jay Shah is set to be elected unopposed. It is to be noted that an election for the ICC Chair is only held if there are multiple nominations for the position and at this stage, it looks highly unlikely. A media release earlier this month had stated that the current directors will put the nominations by August 27.

“Current directors are now required to put forward nominations for the next Chair by 27 August 2024 and if there is more than one candidate, an election will be held with the term of the new Chair commencing on 1 December 2024,” a media release statement read.

Although the BCCI Secretary has been tight lipped of the same, he reportedly enjoys support from majority of the Directors. Shah, who currently holds the all-powerful Finance & Commercial Affairs (F&CA) committee of the ICC has got backing from several boards like Cricket Australia (CA) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).

Greg Barclay to step down as ICC Chairman in November 2024

The current ICC Chairman, Greg Barclay recently confirmed that he will end his stint at the helm this year and will now re-contest the election. Barclay, who was initially appointed as the independent ICC Chair in November 2020, and successfully re-elected unopposed in 2022, will step down from the post in November this year.

“ICC Chair Greg Barclay confirmed to the Board that he will not stand for a third term and will step down from the post when his current tenure finishes at the end of November,” the statement from ICC read. Notably, Barclay is often remembered for significant contributions to the development and governance of international cricket.
