Jon Lewis has resigned as England women’s head coach following the consistent failures that happened recently. England lost to Australia by a heavy 16-0 margin in the multi-format Ashes series. The English side lost all seven games played down under in January and February, registering a 3-0 defeat in the Women’s One-Day Internationals (WODI) and Women’s T20 Internationals (WT20I) followed by an innings loss in the only Test played in Melbourne.

Earlier, England also had a shambolic campaign in the Women’s T20 World Cup held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with their exit in the group round. With England going through this challenging time, Lewis has decided to step down from the role. "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as England Women's head coach. Unfortunately I won't be able to finish this incredibly challenging but enjoyable job of developing this young team, whilst winning and growing the women's game in this country," said Lewis in a statement.

"I have worked tirelessly with this group of young players to develop their skills and understanding of modern-day white ball cricket, whilst still making good progress in 2024, winning 83% of all our games.I am proud that we have seen unprecedented bumper crowds in 2023 and 2024 and I am determined to continue to help drive women's cricket forward in whatever comes next for me. I wish all the players the best and thank them for letting me be part of their journeys," added the 49-year-old.

ECB will have to start their hunt to find new coach before May

The England Cricket Board (ECB) will have to find a new person to fill Lewis' shoes. Their next assignment is at home against West Indies women in May-June. The English side will square off against the Windies side in a three-match WT20I series followed by the WODI competition.

Following the Windies challenge, they will be hosting India women from June 28 to July 25 for six games across the white-ball formats. England will be looking to neutralise both upcoming challenges at home to pacify their critics.
