The defending champions in Australia have suffered a massive blow after their back-up wicketkeeper Josh Inglis suffered a freak injury on Wednesday. Inglis injured himself while playing gold ahead of their T20 World Cup opener on October 22 against New Zealand.
According to multiple reports doing rounds on social media, the 27-year-old injured his hand in a bizarre incident which occurred at the New South Wales Golf Club. It is being reported that his golf club broke on impact with the ball, leaving a deep cut on his right hand and he was later treated on his way to the hospital.
The Cricket Australia also issued a statement addressing Inglis’ injury as they added that he will be assessed further. “Inglis did not appear likely to feature in Australia’s first match against New Zealand at the SCG anyway unless there was an injury to first-choice gloveman Matthew Wade,” said the report.
Cameron Green has been named Inglis' replacement in Australia's squad for T20 WC squad.
The Aaron Finch-led side suffered a loss at the hands of India in the only warm-up game they played in the build-up to the T20 World Cup. They are also coming on the back of a 0-2 series loss against England to the marquee tournament.
