Julian Alvarez, the Argentinian forward, signed for Atletico Madrid from Manchester City for a deal worth more than £80 million last summer in a major transfer before the start of the new season. The 25-year-old is in the midst of a fantastic season in the Spanish capital after leaving England, and amidst all that, his agent Fernando Hidalgo stated that Liverpool had made an enquiry about potentially signing him, but ultimately, Atletico Madrid swooped in for the Argentine.
Notably, in the 2024-25 season, Julian Alvarez has already scored 22 goals and provided five assists in 43 matches in all competitions, which has allowed Atletico Madrid to be firmly in the race for multiple trophies under manager Diego Simeone. The Argentinian has 10 goals in La Liga in 22 appearances, five goals in Copa del Rey in just six matches, and seven goals in 10 games in the UEFA Champions League.
Julian Alvarez played for Manchester City before joining Atletico Madrid last summer
Earlier, after joining Manchester City from River Plate in 2022, Julian Alvarez made 103 appearances for the English club and scored 36 goals prior to completing the big money move to Atletico Madrid at the start of the ongoing season. Before he switched countries to play club football, his agent was enquired about a potential move by Liverpool, and on that matter, Fernando Hidalgo spoke to WinWin recently.
“I confirm that Liverpool were interested in Julian last season. As for the future, this is not the right time to talk about it, as Julian is competing in important tournaments and is fully focused on them,” remarked the agent of the 25-year-old. Moreover, as far as Liverpool’s recent transfer activity is concerned, they are looking for a new number nine as per manager Arne Slot, which has put the future of Darwin Nunez at the club in real jeopardy.
