Three of Italy's biggest football clubs - Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter Milan have reportedly come together to propose a huge change that will see the number of clubs in Serie A to be reduced from 20 to 18. The majority of Serie A clubs have been against the proposal of reducing the teams, which will be discussed at an FIGC assembly in Rome on 11th March, but Juve, Inter, and Milan want the league to be reduced in size to ease the packed fixture list and increase the quality of football on offer.
The idea to reduce the size of the Serie A was first floated by FIGC President Gabriele Gravina and now according to a Daily Mail report, three of the biggest football clubs Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter Milan are also backing the idea of reducing the number of teams in this league.
Serie A decided to expand from 18 to 20 clubs ahead of the 2004/05 season but all that could change to 2003/04 season time, where only 18 teams participated in those days.
The CEOs of Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Juventus met at the Football Federation headquarters this week to discuss the matter with FIGC president Gabriele Gravina. Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta, Juventus general manager Maurizio Scanavino, and director Francesco Calvo were in attendance to meet Gravina.
