Elaborating Williamson’s injury, he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury to his right knee on March 31 while playing for the Gujarat Titans against the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2023 opener. He had to be carried off the pitch after awkwardly landing on his right leg while attempting to stop a six close to the boundary. The month after that, he had surgery, and since then, he has been in rehabilitation.

The batter's ability to compete in the World Cup, which will begin in India in October, had been called into question because of the injury. However, his most recent video appears to show that he is progressing well and might be ready for the major event in time. One of the best batters in the world, Williamson has guided New Zealand to two World Cup finals in a row, in 2015 and 2019.
