New Zealand top-order batter Kane Williamson will be seen as a commentator in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The Kiwi veteran enrolled his name for the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, for his base amount of INR 2 crore, but no franchise showed interest in buying him. Williamson used to be a prominent figure in the league. Back in the 2018 edition, he led Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to the final of the edition with his captaincy. As a batter, he also won the Orange Cap after notching up 735 runs in 17 matches. However, Williamson’s form slumped following that season which led to his ouster from SRH in 2023.

In the last edition, he served Gujarat Titans (GT) but failed miserably as a batter. Following the snub in the mega auction, Williamson will now feature in the league as a commentator. Star Sports, the broadcaster of the T20 event, has divulged that the New Zealander will be one of the members of the star-studded commentary squad. Along with Williamson, AB de Villiers, Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri, Matthew Hayden, Michael Clarke, Sanjay Manjrekar, Mark Boucher, and Harsha Bhogle will also be part of the commentary panel.

Williamson will also be seen in PSL 2025

Williamson will be doing commentary in the initial IPL matches as he will be have to fulfill his duties for Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025, which will kick off with the contest between Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars in Rawalpindi on April 11.

The New Zealand batting icon will join his former SRH teammate David Warner in the Karachi Kings’ squad. Williamson didn’t get any buyer in the platinum category of the PSL 2025 auction, but got picked up by Karachi in the supplementary round of selections.
