New Zealand top-order batter Kane Williamson is all set to remain absent from Karachi Kings’ (KK) squad for initial Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 games. The 34-year-old is a part of the Star Sports commentary panel for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. In November 2024, he went unsold after getting ignored by the 10 IPL franchises in the mega auction 2025. However, his fortunes changed in the PSL 2025 draft as Karachi signed him up as a supplementary player. Williamson, who is out of New Zealand’s central contract, will not show up for his national side against Pakistan in the three-match One-Day International (ODI) series to be played from March 29.
A couple of weeks ahead of the marquee T20 event, PSL has released a statement on players who will be unavailable in the primary stage of the competition. "South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen drafted by Islamabad United in Supplementary category and New Zealand duo Mark Chapman and Kane Williamson selected in the Platinum and Supplementary categories, respectively will also be unavailable for a few matches to Quetta Gladiators and Karachi Kings," remarked PSL in a statement.
Karachi will kick off their PSL 2025 campaign against Multan Sultans on April 12
Karachi Kings will start their PSL 2025 journey against Multan Sultans (MS) at the National Bank Stadium on April 12. The Kings have trusted the former Australia opener David Warner for the leadership role for the upcoming season as they sacked Shan Masood from captaincy after witnessing the dismal 2024 campaign.
With that, Karachi will expect their new skipper to lead from the front to help the side lift the trophy again after five years. Back in November 2020, the Kings won their maiden title under Imad Wasim’s captaincy after beating Lahore Qalandars in the final of the league’s fifth edition.
