World No. 8 and French Open 2023 runners-up Karolina Muchova has pulled out of the upcoming Australian Open 2023. The 27-year-old confirmed the update in an Instagram post, just days ahead of the start of the first Grand Slam of the year. The Czech tennis player confirmed that she has aggravated a wrist injury which led to pulling out of the AO 2024.

“Hi fans and friends. This isn’t my favourite thing to share, especially at the start of a new season, but unfortunately, the pain in a wrist came back in the middle of my tennis preparations. I therefore have to postpone the start of the season and fully heal my wrist first. It’s frustrating, but I have to keep positive, recover and get ready for the rest of the year. See you in 2025,” she captioned her post.

Muchova has been troubled by her wrist injury since US Open 2023. The 27-year-old was forced to pull out of the Beijing and Tokyo Championship, followed by her withdrawal from the GNP Seguros WTA Finals Cancun. She was scheduled to take part in the Adelaide International, which is set to get underway from January 8, but will miss due to her injury.

The 2024 edition of the Australian Open is set to kickstart from Sunday, January 14. The tournament will see the return of former World No. 1 and 22-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal along with several prominent faces including Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz and others.
