The media proceedings before the IPL 2025 have kicked off with all the team’s representatives talking to the press and putting forth their team’s aspirations and plans going into the new season. And such is also the case for the Gujarat Titans; where Shubman Gill and Ashish Nehra spoke to the media in their pre-season press conference. One major discussion point was about how Gill was planning to manage the captaincy role that he has at the Gujarat Titans. Gill joined the Gujarat franchise in 2022 when it was newly formed and ended up winning the IPL title in the team’s debut season.
The following season was even more remarkable for the youngster as he scored a mammoth 890 runs, including three centuries in that season and picked up the Orange cap award. In the following 2024 season, Gill took up captaincy from Hardik Pandya however it wasn’t the best season for him on a personal front. He managed to score only 426 runs leaving many people to wonder whether the pressure of captaincy was taking a toll on his batting performance.

While addressing similar questions from the media in today’s pre-season press conference, Gill spoke out about how he had learned a lot from his first season of captaincy and was hoping to take all of those learnings and experiences into the upcoming season. He said, “I think the most interesting and challenging thing about captaincy is that everyday you learn something new about players and yourself. I learned all of that about players and myself and realised what all I need to work on to become a better captain.”
Gill, who is coming off a superb batting record in international matches, will hope to carry that same form with the bat into this IPL season as well. He scored an unbeaten 101 in India’s opening game of the Champions Trophy against Bangladesh and had also put together scores of 87, 60 and 112 in the previous India vs England ODI series.
