The Delhi Capitals (DC) have been handed a massive setback midway through the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The Axar Patel-led franchise, who are on a three-match winning streak will reportedly miss the services of mentor Kevin Pietersen as the former England have left for Maldives.
In an unexpected turn of events, Pietersen has left for Maldives after DC’s comfortable 25-run win against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday, April 5. However, the reason behind his sudden travel is not known, he is expected to rejoin the side shortly after a brief break.

The former England international has reportedly taken a break from the cash-ruich league after joining the side in February 2025. In a social media post shared across his official handles, Pietersen can be sharing the view outside the window of an airplane as he lands in Maldives.
While he is expected to miss DC’s upcoming match against RCB, which is scheduled for April 10, he is likely to rejoin before April 13 when DC host Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. Moreover, in absence of the DC mentor, Hemang Badani and Venugopal Rao will helm DC’s planning as their interim head coach and Director of Cricket.
Moreover, they will be supported by the likes of Munaf Patel, their bowling coach and fielding coach Matthew Mott. Speaking of the franchise, DC currently lead the table with hat-trick of wins. They are the only team in the tournament who are yet to be beaten.
