Star India batter KL Rahul suffered an injury scare during team India’s intra-squad practice match at the WACA in Perth on Friday, November 15. The 32-year-old, who was set to open alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal in the Perth Test was hit on the elbow during the match stimulation a few days ahead of the highly anticipated BGT opener against Australia. Notably, after three days of intense training in the WACA nets, team India played an intra-squad game with their main stars and India A players.

During the game, Rahul was hit by the ball on his elbow after being struck by a bouncy short delivery. After a short pause and an initial treatment, when he attempted to continue batting, discomfort led him to exit the session. Images of Rahul walking off the field with the physio started making rounds, sparking concerns among fans and experts alike. However, a report by India Today stated that he was doing well and there were no concerns regarding injuries within the Indian camp.

India’s ramp up preparations ahead of Border Gavaskar Trophy 2025 opener

India have been rigorously preparing for the forthcoming series and they will aim to gain their lost momentum against a strong Australian side. India enter the five-match series on the back of an embarrassing series loss against New Zealand at home. Ahead of the opener, India organised match stimulation as part of their strategic preparations in the absence of skipper Rohit Sharma, who is expected to miss the series opener.

Notably, Rahul’s recent form has been a concern of late. He was moved to the India A squad for unofficial Test matches against Australia A in Melbourne. However, the batter failed to prove himself and could come up with modest scores of 4 and 10.
