During the low-scoring thriller between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday, LSG skipper KL Rahul suffered a gruesome injury that forced him to instantly leave the game and came to bat at No. 10 during the chase. Reportedly, the 31-year-old opener will miss the upcoming clash against Chennai Super Kings, and all-rounder Krunal Pandya will replace him as the LSG captain.
KL Rahul, who is named in India's WTC Final squad, has suffered the hip-flexor injury while chasing the ball during Royal Challengers Bangalore's batting and the Board of Control for Cricket in India has reportedly taken hold of his case from the IPL franchise.
According to Cricbuzz, KL Rahul's injury is serious and the BCCI and NCA's medical team have intervened in the matter and will guide the wicketkeeper-batter and his IPL franchise further. Rahul is still with LSG in Lucknow, but will not participate in the match against CSK on Wednesday. The report also added that the LSG opener has swelling and the BCCI and NCA medical teams are undergoing scans on Rahul.
Additionally, LSG pacer Jaydev Unadkat has also reportedly suffered a left shoulder injury during the practice session and will miss the remainder of the IPL 2023.
LSG are scheduled to host MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on Wednesday. In the IPL 2023 points table, LSG have managed the third spot while CSK are placed fourth with the same points. Both LSG and CSK have 10 points in nine matches, however, LSG maintain a better net run rate than CSK.
