World No. 3 ranked India’s men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty beat He Ji Ting and Zhao Hao Dong of China to advance into the quarterfinals of the ongoing Korea Open 2023. The Super 500 badminton tournament which is underway in Seoul, South Korea saw the India duo enter the quarters on Wednesday.
The World No. 3 ranked pair won the match in straight sets, with the scoreline reading 21-17, 21-15. The Indian duo who beat their Chinese opponent, remain the only Indians now in the BWF Super 500 as other players including HS Prannoy, Priyanshu Rajawat and the women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly/Gayatri Gopichand faced defeats in their respective matches.
The pair of Satwiksairaj and Chirag will now face the fifth-seeded Japanese pair of Takuro Hoki and Yugo Koboyahsi.
HS Prannoy, Priyanshu Rajawat bow out
Talking about the men’s singles event, HS Prannoy made an exit from the tournament after his second round loss to Lee Cheuk Yiu of Hong. The World No. 10 ranked player lost to his opponent 15-21, 21-19, 18-21 in a match which lasted for one hour and six minutes.
Meanwhile, Priyanshu Rajawat lost against World No. 4 Kodai Naraoka in a battle of one hour and 22 minutes with the scoreline reading 4-21, 21-18, 17-21.
