Former India opener Virender Sehwag has criticised Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for their underwhelming performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. In the 15th match of the league, SRH faced an 80-run thumping at the hands of defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic Eden Gardens on April 3. This was the Orange Army’s third loss in a row. Earlier, Pat Cummins and his men suffered crushing defeats against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in the competition. The hammering against Kolkata has put SRH at the bottom of the points table.

On a Cricbuzz show, Sehwag remarked Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) tendency to crumble has now been taken up by the 2016 IPL champions. He also added SRH disappointed fans as the team possesses a solid batting attack but no one stepped up to score runs. Sehwag also believes fans and spectators expect entertainment from SRH as Cummins and Co. have maintained the reputation of delivering intriguing games.

“Punjab used to put a spoke in their wheels, and now it seems they have given it to Hyderabad (Punjab ko paas jo kulhaadi thi woh apne pairon pe maarti thi, woh unhone Hyderabad ko de di hai toh Hyderabad ne li hai, pichle teen match se naa maare jaa rahe hai woh apne pairon pe).”

He also added, “They made 190 and lost, then made about 160 and lost, today they couldn’t chase down 200. Neither was (KKR’s) bowling attack nor the wicket (too difficult to deal with). They batted first and scored 200. We could see that the ball wasn’t turning; there wasn’t too much help in any way for the bowlers. Hyderabad have disappointed. What can I say? They’ve got so many batters, and nobody could score runs and they get all out at 120. The paying public has come to see you."

SRH will host GT on April 6 in IPL 2025

After the back-to-back defeats, Hyderabad will endeavour to bounce back while hosting Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on April 6. SRH will have to be wary of Gujarat, who have looked magnificent in their previous matches against Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

Hyderabad have played two games in their backyard this season and won one against Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 44 runs in their opening match. While hosting Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 27, they failed to defend a score of 190 runs.
