Sri Lanka’s star batsman Kusal Mendis and magic spinner Wanindu Hasaranga are currently busy leading their respective sides in the 2023 edition of the Lanka Premier League. Recently, in a press conference, in which all captains were present, a hilarious incident occurred.
Wanindu Hasaranga is in the form of his life but with a twist as he is not only taking wickets with the ball but is scoring crucial runs down the order for the B-Love Kandy in the LPL. In his last two games, Hasaranga has scored two fifties, both at a strike rate of above 230. In the game against Jaffna Kings, Hasaranga promoted himself up the order and came in to bat at No. 3. He scored an outstanding innings of 52(22) and chased the target for his team in just 13 overs, while also picking up three crucial wickets in the first innings.
Speaking about this match, a reporter asked him in the press conference whether he would like to bat at No. 3 for his national team, Sri Lanka. Kusal Mendis, who was seated beside him, gave an amazing reaction to the question and looked highly surprised.
Kusal Mendis is the regular top-order batsman on the national team and was visibly shocked by the thought of Wanindu Hasarange batting at his position. But everything was good fun, as both players shared a laugh after that.
Kusal Mendis, who leads the Galle Titans, has had a forgettable outing as captain, as the team has lost three games out of five and looks unlikely to qualify for the playoffs. Hasaranga’s team on the other hand has topped the table. Both the players are crucial parts of the Sri Lankan team and will look to give their best and prepare for the marquee event, the Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled for later this year.
