The Los Angeles Lakers have taken a decision to postpone their upcoming NBA game on Friday night against the Charlotte Hornets at the Crypto.com Arena amid the ongoing wildfires in the region. Over the past few days, the firefighters have been battling a number of fires in the Los Angeles suburbs, which has meant that nearly 200,000 people are being forced to evacuate the area as many of the homes have been blazed completely.
Apart from the LA Lakers, the NHL outfit Los Angeles Kings, who also have a home base at the Crypto.com Arena, postponed their game against the Calgary Flames earlier, which was set to be played on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, the NFL side Los Angeles Rams’ play-off game against the Minnesota Vikings is likely to take place on Monday, January 13, but the situation could change almost anytime.
We're heartbroken for Los Angeles: Lakers said in official statement
In their official statement, the Los Angeles Lakers addressed the wildfire situation in the suburban areas of the city, talking about how the situation at hand is far more important than the game today. They wrote, “We're heartbroken for Los Angeles. Our thoughts are with all those impacted by this unimaginable situation. And our gratitude is with the first responders and all of you who come together when we need each other the most. Tonight’s game will be rescheduled to focus on what matters most today. We're with you, LA.”
The NBA have confirmed that the date of the rescheduled game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Charlotte Hornets will be announced at a later time. Meanwhile, on the other side of the town, Kawhi Leonard, the LA Clippers star, is reportedly expected to step away from playing for the team, to give himself time to be with his family after they were evacuated from the fire ravaged area in the suburbs.
