Lalit Modi, the founder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the former Vice-President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has made startling claims against N Srinivasan, the former co-owner of Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The 60-year-old accused N Srinivasan of fixing the IPL auction and the umpires in favour of CSK during his time as the President of the BCCI, who also served as the ICC President a decade or so ago.
In his recent interview, as reported by NDTV Sports, Lalit Modi spoke about how he had to give Andrew Flintoff, the former England all-rounder, to CSK during the IPL auction in 2009 because N Srinivasan wanted it to happen. Furthermore, Laiit Modi also alleged that N Srinivasan did umpire fixing in the IPL, and when the former BCCI President accused him of it, he accused him right back.
Pick out everything-auction rigging. I gave Flintoff to Srinivasan: Lalit Modi
While speaking to Raj Shamani on his YouTube podcast show, Lalit Modi mentioned the term “auction rigging,” while talking about how N Srinivasan was involved in it. He was quoted as saying, “Pick out everything-auction rigging. I gave Flintoff to Srinivasan. Yes, we did it. No doubts about it; every team knew about it. Srinivasan wasn't going to let the IPL happen. He was a thorn in our Board. Yes, we told everybody not to pick (Andrew) Flintoff. Yes, that I did-because Srinivasan said 'I want Flintoff.”
Lalit Modi also spoke about how he and N Srinivasan were each other’s adversary during their time in the IPL just after it was launched in 2008. He remarked, “He (N Srinivasan) was a big adversary of mine. I went up against him, and he did many things. Umpire fixing-he accused me of it, and I accused him right back.” Modi spoke about how Srinivasan would put an umpire from Chennai in a CSK game.
“He would change the umpire. At first, I didn't think much about it. But when I realized he was putting a Chennai umpire on a Chennai game, it became an issue for me. That's called indirect fixing. When I started exposing those things, he went totally against me,” Lalit Modi further added.
