Amid the increasing chaos around the domestic leagues around the world, the Sri Lankan Cricket-operated Lanka Premier League is set to commence on July 1. The tournament follows the prestigious T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA, which will conclude on June 29 in Barbados.
The fifth edition of the tournament will witness an enthralling opening match which will be a replay of the previous edition’s final. B-Love Kandy, who were crowned as the champions for the maiden time in 2023, will take on Dambulla Thunders. In the first three seasons of the tournament, Jaffna Kings (Jaffna Stallions in 2020) lifted the title three consecutive times.
The 2024 edition, which will see 24 matches in the span of 20 days, consists of five teams, and each team is slated to compete in eight games. The tournament will be played in the double round-robin format and the top four teams will qualify for the play-offs.
