The glow comes from an LED strip, but Hamilton will probably not be able to race with that LED strip on because a source of light like that can be a distraction on track and a safety hazard. Designed in collaboration with Japanese illustrator Hajime Sorayama, the helmet is completely chrome with the Mercedes logo emblazoned in the middle. Even without the LED, this helmet will be one of the most unique designs at the Japanese GP.

On the other hand, two-time champion Max Verstappen will also sport a special helmet at the Japanese Grand Prix. The Dutch’s helmet is a stripped back version of his usual design with a red and white theme to represent the Japanese flag. Going off a similar theme to Verstappen, Esteban Ocon has also unveiled a red and white themed helmet with a red circle on the top to represent the Japanese flag. Fernando Alonso will wear a helmet inspired by the traditional samurai armor worn by Japanese warriors in feudal times.

It is to be noted that Hamilton has won the Japanese Grand Prix five times, with four of those victories coming at Suzuka. His most recent victory came in 2018. However, in the ongoing edition, he sits at third place with 180 points in the Drivers’ Standings.
