New Zealand's Liam Lawson will get more chances to impress in Formula One, as he has been confirmed to continue racing for Scuderia Alpha Tauri until Daniel Ricciardo is fully fit. Ricciardo, who suffered a broken hand in a crash during FP2 at the Dutch Grand Prix, underwent surgery in Barcelona and is expected to be out of action for at least a month.

Lawson went on to qualify at 20th place for the race but impressed in the final race as he managed to navigate one of the most difficult races in recent memory to finish at P13. The Kiwi faced wet weather, red flags, Safety Car restarts, and a penalty on his Formula 1 debut, which he successfully tackled.

Lawson will now stay in the Alpha Tauri seat for the next Italian Grand Prix at Monza, as Ricciardo is targeting a return to Singapore. As there is a two-week break after the Italian Grand Prix, Ricciardo has more than enough time to recover from his injury.

AlphaTauri confirmed the news in an X post which read, "We are delighted that Daniel's surgery went well and that he is now on the road to recovery. We hope to see him at the track again very soon, but until he is fully fit, we can confirm that Liam, who did a good job in difficult circumstances in Zandvoort, will continue to drive alongside Yuki, starting from our home race this weekend in Monza."

Alpha Tauri currently sits at 10th place with three points in the 2023 Constructors’ Championships. While Yuki Tsunoda sit at 17th place with three points, Daniel Ricciardo and Liam Lawson both sit at the bottom of the table with zero points.
