In a stunning development from the world of football, Lionel Messi might be on his way to rejoining Pep Guardiola once again in a shock loan move to Manchester City, leaving MLS club Inter Miami. After a massive slump in form over the past couple of months, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is desperate to turn his team’s results around, and he is reportedly planning to bring Lionel Messi on board in January, to solve their problem in the attacking front.

Notably, in the last eight Premier League matches, Manchester City have gotten only four points in total, which is equal to the bottom place team Southampton, winning just one match in the last two months in all competitions. The relegation level form for defending Premier League champions is a major problem, and with Pep Guardiola not being able to bring a change to his team’s fortunes alongside the current set of players, he is quite interested in sparking their offensive play through Lionel Messi’s signing.

Pep Guardiola and Lionel Messi were one of the greatest coach-player pairing in football history

Manchester City are currently in seventh place in the Premier League standings with 27 points, behind leaders Liverpool by 12 points, and the latter have a game in hand as well. The likes of Chelsea and Arsenal also have a clear gap to Manchester City on the points table, while Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, and Aston Villa have clearly played more consistent football in comparison to them, which has meant that they have jumped ahead of the defending champions too.

The signing of Lionel Messi is definitely on the table for Pep Guardiola, not only because they have worked successfully for years at Barcelona, but also due to the Argentine player enjoying some time off from playing for Inter Miami. After the post-season break, the multi-time Ballon d’Or winner is slated to play the next match for the MLS club in April, which could allow Manchester City to secure a loan deal with Inter Miami lasting six months, if the report from Sportskeeda is to be believed.

If the deal goes through, it will be the first time Lionel Messi plays in the Premier League after spending the majority of his career in La Liga and Ligue 1.
