In the incredibly unpredictable world of the Indian Premier League (IPL), where every over can change the course of a game, few moments are as thrilling as a hat-trick. Achieved when a bowler dismisses three batsmen in consecutive deliveries, a hat-trick is a rare and electrifying feat that can tilt the balance in favour of the bowling side instantly.
Since the league’s inception in 2008, the IPL has witnessed several such iconic moments, delivered by both specialist bowlers and surprising part-timers alike. Top hat-trick takers in IPL history
Lakshmipathy Balaji etched his name in IPL history by taking the very first hat-trick of the tournament during the inaugural season. Playing at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Balaji’s spell was a masterclass in seam bowling. Amit Mishra is the undisputed king of IPL hat-tricks with three hat-tricks to his name. Mishra holds the distinction of securing the most IPL hat-tricks, with three to his name, one in 2008 for Delhi Daredevils, one in 2011 for Deccan Chargers, and one in 2013 for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Yuvraj Singh is the only other player with multiple hat-tricks, achieving two in the 2009 season for Kings XI Punjab. Typically known for his explosive batting, the Indian all-rounder stunned everyone in the 2009 edition in South Africa by picking up not one, but two hat-tricks.
All another name on this list is one which might surprise you as it is that of Rohit Sharma. Primarily renowned as a batting maestro, Rohit surprised everyone with a rare bowling performance. Against his future franchise Mumbai Indians, Rohit took the wickets of Abhishek Nayar, Harbhajan Singh, and JP Duminy to complete a hat-trick in 2009.
