Liverpool fans may be in for a shock as their star player, Mohamed Salah, is reportedly close to joining Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad. According to Saudi media outlet Arriyadiyah, the 31-year-old Egyptian forward has been offered a staggering €180 million (£155m/$198m) contract by the Jeddah-based team, which would make him one of the highest-paid players in the world.
Salah, who has scored 187 goals in 307 appearances for Liverpool since joining from Roma in 2017, has been instrumental in the Reds' success in recent years. He helped them win the Champions League, the Premier League, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup under Jurgen Klopp.
Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, has denied that his client is leaving Liverpool for Saudi Arabia. He tweeted: "Neither Mohamed nor I discussed this with anyone." However, Arriyadiyah claims that Salah is seriously considering Al-Ittihad’s offer and could announce his decision soon.
Now, it seems that Salah could be tempted by a lucrative offer from Al-Ittihad, one of the most successful and popular clubs in Saudi Arabia. Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Riyad Mahrez, and Cristiano Ronaldo are among the stars who have moved to the Saudi Pro League, which is aiming to become one of the best leagues in the world.
If Salah does leave Liverpool, it would be a huge blow for Klopp and the fans, who adore him as one of their own. Liverpool would reportedly look to replace Salah with Juventus winger Federico Chiesa. However, it remains to be seen if they can find a suitable replacement for their Egyptian King.
