English broadcaster and journalist Piers Morgan trolled former Australia Glenn McGrath for the ‘disgrace’ comment he made on disallowing a catch by Australia’s Mitchell Starc. The former Aussie pacer strongly criticised the overruling of Ben Duckett’s dismissal and disallowing Starc’s crucial catch during the second Test of Ashes 2023 at Lord’s in London.
During the second Test of the ongoing Ashes 2023 tournament, England opener Ben Duckett was given out when he mistimed a bouncer by Cameron Green. Starc, who was positioned at the fine leg, managed to hold onto the catch but unintentionally grounded the ball while sliding on the grass. This left the umpire Marais Erasmus with no choice but to overturn the decision. The decision seemingly left the retired Australian bowler fuming with anger and disheartened. Not only this, but the 53-year-old ex-cricketer didn’t hold back and expressed his disappointment on air.
Ranting about the umpire's decision, McGrath said, "I’m sorry, that is the biggest load of rubbish I have ever seen,” he said. He has got that ball under control. That ball is under control. I’m sorry, I’ve seen everything this game has to offer. If that is not out, then every other catch that’s ever been taken should be not out. That is a disgrace. I’ve seen everything now. I cannot believe that. If that ball is not under control, that is ridiculous. He’s got that well under control in two hands. I have seen everything now."
However, the English broadcaster Piers Morgan took a jibe at the former cricketer and said that any Australian who thinks that it was a catch is living in a dreamland. Tagging McGrath in his tweet, the 58-year-old wrote, "Any Australian who thinks this is out is living in cloud cuckoo land. cc @glennmcgrath11 #Ashes."
Not only this, but Morgan also praised England’s batting on the final day of the second Ashes 2023 Test. Seemingly pulling a shot at McGrath, He wrote, "Whisper it quietly but ENGLAND ARE BATTING SUPERBLY TODAY.. 🤫"
Speaking of the fourth-day game in the second Ashes 2023 Test, the hosts finished at 114 at the loss of four wickets, with Duckett remaining unbeaten at 50. At the end of the fourth day, the Ben Stokes side needed 257 runs to achieve the target of 371 runs. On Day 5, England batters Stokes and Duckett started well and added 63 runs more to register a 132-run partnership for the fifth wicket before Josh Hazelwood dismissed the England opener.
After Duckett's wicket, Australia dismissed Bairstow in quick succession as the wicketkeeper-batter moved back to the pavilion after scoring just 10 runs off 22 balls in a bizarre fashion. On the other hand, Ben Stokes is currently leading the England attack as the skipper has registered his 13th Test hundred.
