The Punjab Kings (PBKS) have been handed a massive setback as they are likely to miss the services of their star pacer Lockie Ferguson. The Kiwi speedster, who has been dealt with a mid-season blow, is unlikely to return to the field for the remainder of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for the Punjab-based franchise.

Speaking of the eve of PBKS’ home game against the defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, fast bowling coach James Hopes confirmed that the Kiwi pacer is “indefinitely” out after suffering a serious injury.

Lockie Ferguson likely ruled out of IPL 2025

The Kiwi international sustained an injury during PBKS’ last match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Hyderabad. He bowled just two deliveries before pulling up and was forced to leave the field. Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Hopes said, “Ferguson is out indefinitely, and us getting him back by the end of the tournament is a very low percentage. I think he's done a real decent injury to himself.”

It is to be noted that Ferguson has been struggling with injuries off late. He missed the Champions Trophy 2025 in February-March due to a hamstring injury which he sustained during ILT20 2025. However, he has been key this season for the PBKS, the pacer has scalped five wickets in four games for the side.
