Lucknow Super Giants will reportedly release skipper KL Rahul ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. As per reports, the young pace sensation Mayank Yadav is going to be one of the top 3 retentions that the franchise will make. Apart from him, the franchise is also going to retain Nicholas Pooran and Ravi Bishnoi. Rahul has been the captain of the franchise in their first three seasons in the cash-rich league, but sources have said that the franchise is not happy with his strike rate.
“The LSG management, including mentor Zaheer Khan and coach Justin Langer, has analysed his stats and it has emerged that the team has almost lost all matches where KL has batted long and scored runs. That indicates that his strike rate doesn't match the momentum of the game. With the Impact Player rule, the scores are getting higher. You can't afford to have someone taking so much time at the top of the order.” a source in the IPL told Times of India. The report by the TOI also states that while the franchise is not willing to retain him, it has not ruled out bidding for him at the auction.
Mayank is LSG’s find: IPL sources
The sources told TOI that Mauank Yadav is its future and one shouldn’t be surprised if he is picked ahead of Ravi Bishnoi in the retention list. The reports have also stated that Ayush Badoni and seamer Mohsin Khan could be retained by the team as uncapped players. The source told TOI, "Mayank is LSG's find. They invested in him when no one knew of him and he has shown what kind of impact he can have on a match.”
Another report by the media platform suggests that franchises are waiting for Delhi Capitals to release the list of their retention so that they know how much they can spend to acquire the services of Rishabh Pant, if he is not retained by the Delhi-based franchise.
