On Monday, April 14, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) crushed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by five wickets in match number 30 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. After posting 166/7 in their stipulated 20 overs, Rishabh Pant-led LSG had a poor outing in front of their home fans, allowing CSK to finally end their five-match losing streak and completing a successful chase with three balls to spare.

For the unversed, after winning the toss, MS Dhoni, the captain of CSK, decided to field first. The CSK bowlers kept LSG top-order relatively quiet in the powerplay stage, allowing them to score only 42 runs at the loss of two wickets as Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran, both departed having scored six and eight runs respectively. Although, Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant did look good in the middle, but the Aussie was removed by Jadeja.

LSG skipper and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant did look good with the bat, scoring 63 off 49 with Ayush Badoni (22) and Abdul Samad (20) also playing quick cameos. In the stipulated 20 overs, LSG could add 166 runs at the loss of seven wickets. For CSK, Ravindra Jadeja and Matheesha Pathirana bagged two wickets each, whereas Khaleel Ahmed and Anshul Kamboj could pick one wicket each.

CSK get back to winning ways; beat LSG by 5 wickets in IPL 2025

In the run chase, CSK batting got off to a flyer with Shaaik Rasheed and Rachin Ravindra stitching a 52-run partnership for the first wicket. But in the sixth over, Avesh Khan removed the new man, Rasheed whereas Rachin Ravindra’s innings was cut short Aiden Markram. However, the middle-order consisting of Rahul Tripathi and Ravindra Jadeja once again failed, but Shivam Dube (43*) and MS Dhoni (26*) helped the side chase the total with three balls to spare to get to their first win after five straight games defeat.

However, the win added a sigh of relief in the CSK camp, but they continue to reel at the bottom of the points table with four points and comparatively lower net run rate. On the other hand, LSG are also unchanged as they continue to sit at the fourth place in the IPL 2025 standings.
