Luka Modric has recently issued a statement about his future at Real Madrid. It was previously reported that the 39-year-old wanted to stay at Madrid for one more year, and now it has been confirmed by the midfielder himself. Modric recently played in Croatia’s match against France, marking his 185th appearance with the national team. Luka Modric has started every single game for the Croatian national team since the start of last year, including the Euro 2024 and has in fact been the captain for the national team in every match, which was visible in the recent 2-0 victory against France as well.

Croatia came out victorious against France in the quarter-final first leg of the Nations League under the captaincy of Luka Modric. His performances at this age speak volumes about longevity and quality. Modric’s current deal with Los Blancos runs until June 2025 and the Croatian midfielder and the club could come to a deal to extend the player’s contract for a short duration like one year.

My dream is..: Modric speaks about future at Madrid

In a recent statement, Modric reiterated his position about his future at the club. While Madrid still have a long season after being alive in every competition they are playing, Modric wants to take things ‘one game at a time’ and then make a decision about his future. However, the ideal situation for him would be renewing his contract for another year.

He said, “New contract to be signed at Madrid? No hurry. The season is still long, we have many more games. Then we will see.” He added by saying, “My dream is clear, to retire at Real Madrid.” Having been at the club for almost 13 years, Modric has played a staggering 616 games for Real Madrid, scoring 43 goals and providing 93 assists in the process.
