Luton Town captain Tom Lockyer is in stable condition after suffering a cardiac arrest during a Premier League match against Bournemouth, which was abandoned after the incident on Saturday, December 16. The 29-year-old fell to the ground in the 65th minute of the contest with the scoreline reading 1-1 between Bournemouth and Luton Town at the Vitality Stadium.
The referee Simon Hooper paused the play for the Welshman Tom Lockyer to receive immediate treatment from the medics at the Vitality Stadium. The fans gave a standing ovation to the Luton Town defender while he was getting stretched off by the medics before being taken to the hospital.

In the meantime, both the players and support staff of Bournemouth and Luton Town were taken to the dressing room before the referee abandoned the match according to the Premier League rules. Notably, Tom Lockyer had also collapsed during the Championship Play-off Final win for Luton Town against Coventry at the Wembley Stadium this past May.
Luton Town released a statement about the condition of Tom Lockyer, which read, “Our medical staff have confirmed that Tom Lockyer suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch, but was responsive by the time he was taken off on the stretcher. He received further treatment inside the stadium, for which we once again thank the medical teams from both sides.”
“Tom was transferred to hospital, where we can reassure supporters that he is stable and currently undergoing further tests with his family at his bedside. We would like to thank everyone for their support, concern and loving messages for Locks,” they added.
Moreover, as per Premier League Rule L15, any match abandoned with the consent of the referee will be replayed, which would mean that Bournemouth and Luton Town will go at once again at the Vitality Stadium shortly. The date and kick-off time are going to be arranged by the Premier League board.
