In the 59th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the Gujarat Titans captain, Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan stitched together the joint highest opening stand of 210 runs at the expense of Chennai Super Kings. At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gill and Sudharsan also completed their respective hundreds, prompting a plethora of reactions on X.
For the unversed, Ruturaj Gaikwad, the Chennai Super Kings captain, won the toss on a rare occasion in the IPL 2024, and he decided to field first. But, from that point onwards, nothing worked for CSK in front of Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan, who matched each other shot for shot, taking the opposition bowlers to the cleaners.
After completing their respective hundreds, Gill and Sudharsan also reached the landmark of joint highest opening partnership of 210 runs in the IPL history. They equalled the opening stand of KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock, which was made for Lucknow Super Giants against Kolkata Knight Riders at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai in IPL 2022.
