Young Indian cricketer Shubman Gill has emerged as one of the prolific batters in the Indian cricket circuit, and many cricket experts' have bestowed their trust in the Gujarat Giants batter for taking Indian cricket further to greater heights. While Gill is currently part of the New Zealand tour for the white-ball series, he also shared some interesting anecdotes during his debut match back in 2019.

While speaking on the chat show 'Dil Diyan Gallan' hosted by Sonam Bajwa, Gill revealed how one conversation with a former Indian skipper MS Dhoni helped him to regain his confidence after getting dismissed cheaply in his debut match.

Notably, Shubman Gill could only score nine runs in 21 deliveries back in 2019 during the New Zealand tour, followed by India losing the match by eight wickets in Hamilton. While Shubam was left dejected with the kind of start, he had to his international stint with Indian cricket, Dhoni reached out to him and recalled how he had the most terrible debut in Indian cricket.

"That day, I made my debut. I was dismissed when India was around 15. I was sitting outside and was sad, having scored just nine runs in my debut. So, Mahi bhai came and saw that I was very sad. I was then around 18-19 years old. He told me at least your debut was better than mine."

"I realized he was dismissed for a golden duck in his debut. He did not face a single ball (sic) and was run out. Then he started laughing and joking, and that gesture touched me," Gill revealed.

Although Dhoni had a horrific start to his international career, he won all the 3 ICC trophies as an international captain. Dhoni also won four IPL titles while leading Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League and is regarded as one of the most successful captains in Indian cricket apart from being a world-threatening finisher and a wicketkeeper par excellence.
