Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah suffered an injury while attempting a catch during the New Zealand vs Bangladesh clash at the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. In the 11th fixture of the ICC event, the 2019 runners-up took on Bangladesh at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and opted to field first.

During the 21st over of the second innings, Daryll Mitchell pulled a six off a Shakib Al Hasan delivery. Mahmudullah, who was standing at the long-off fence, got his hands on the ball just over his head. However, while doing so, the cricketer tripped over the boundary fence and fell on his back while hurting his head.
